INTRODUCTION
After a lot of research into the living conditions of our Rural Communities, a group of concerned person led by Mr. Nelson Edward Obella Sought to find durable solutions to pervasive poverty in rural households.
With Compassion and utmost Commitments and depending on the little funds we had raised through promotions and together with other limited resources Mobilized, we planned and founded VOLUNTARY EFFORTS for RURAL DEVELOPMENTS (VERDE-Uganda) in 2003 devotedly to improve Rural Livelihood.
A great number of our target populations are people who were displaced from their original homes by the long running Civil strife and conflict in Northern Uganda (22 year old war) now living in appalling poverty. Most of them are total illiterates who have never seen inside of a classroom in their lifetimes. They need support to recovery.
HIV/AIDS is a present and an on going threat and reality to life and suffering, giving rise to over 2000 orphan children in our working area in Tororo and over 2300 orphan children in Jinja area. Most of these are left to suffer without proper guidance and care.
Because of the pathetic conditions including Lack of Infrastructure, people in these Communities have very little or no access to Education, Health facilities, Water and Sanitation, Training for productive Skills.
Many Children living in conditions of appalling poverty will not receive Education to change their lives. Many others will always suffer and die in conditions of poor water and Sanitation. Hunger and poverty will persist while HIV/AIDS prevalence will continue rising and so will domestic Violence, Brutality and abuse.
By providing Interventions, our Communities benefit from all the advantages that the programs bestow, enabling the people to go on and take their opportunities to improve their personal lives, to contribute to development of their Communities, Country and Worldwide.
Our programs targets the Tororo District, which has 14,118 people, out of which 900 households, or 5400 people, will benefit directly. In the Jinja District there are 20,782 people or 1200 households, of which over 6000 people are to benefit directly from VERDE-Uganda's work.
OUR MISSION
VERDE-Uganda’s utmost purpose for existence is to realize a Community free of injustices in life. A Community where abject poverty and vulnerability, health burdens, illiteracy, oppression and contempt are minimized or become history."Improving Rural Lives by mobilizing the people, Educating and Equipping them with the available resources to equal them, participate directly in activities which bring positive Changes to their Livelihoods or Sustainable development and reducing Vulnerability."
Our resolutions are to intervene and cause positive changes.
For example: Our community has lived extremely poor unbroken poverty life cycles generation after generation; persistent hunger from season to season of the year; a great number of children having no access to school and ending as village casual laborers; village after village, people suffering without clean water because the people cannot afford costs required for protected water well construction or the cost of repairing or drilling a new borehole well in order to minimize water bone diseases like diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and skin complications especially in children because of bad water.
These kind of situations, require our commitments, attention and subsequent interventions in order to cause positive changes in our rural Communities.
Our role is to catalyze the communities towards beneficial initiatives and activities which will improve livelihood and sustainability.
OUR FINANCIAL RESOURCES
Our Financial sources locally are very narrow and extremely unreliable because we are grass roots organization working with the rural already very poor people. It is this reason that we are earnestly seeking for helping hands and support from International Partnership Frameworks and persons who have hearts for development of others for the sake of improving humanity.
We believe that if you saved the life of a single person, it is as if you have saved the life of the whole man kind.
Therefore in a community that we live in, a donation of US $4 per week could sustain 2 orphan children and could cause a lot positive changes in their lives.
We value and we want to be a countable for every Donation for the cause of the poor, children and other vulnerable persons.
