The Problem
In the African context and culture, persons with disabilities are treated with contempt, abuse and disregard. They are categorized as inferior human beings and therefore are denied opportunities of development with other human beings.
In the past even the government of Uganda would decline to offer a properly qualified person a job, just by virtue of his/her being crippled.
Many children in our communities are disabled, and their parents do not allow them to join other children at school because the parents know that they will not benefit much from the crippled child.
VERDE-Uganda is working to train some disabled children in Drama. We began Construction of a center for disabled persons, but unfortunately we have run short of funds to complete the center.
